We offer a repeat prescription service for regular items that have been added by the doctor as repeat medication. You may bring in or arrange to have your medication request slips brought into the practice or posted/faxed to us or using the online repeat prescription ordering facility as noted below. Please note - we DO NOT offer a repeat prescription over the telephone unless you are noted to be housebound on your medical record. We aim to have your prescription ready 48 hours after we receive your request. Please note that we can sometimes be subject to staff sickness or an unexpected high workload. Where this occurs we would ask that you communicate with our reception staff so that we can try to get urgently required medication to you on an individual basis. Please do not blame the reception staff if your prescription is not ready and you have not communicated any particular needs or urgency to us.
It is the patient's responsibility to check periodically the stock of their medication and ensure that they do not exhaust their supply and then request a repeat prescription at the 'last minute'. Furthermore, please ensure that you attend your scheduled medication reviews regularly especially if you are taking multiple repeat medications. If there are outstanding reviews the practice is within rights to withhold non-essential medication until the patient is contacted and agrees to attend for a review with the clinician. Refusal to attend the Clinician for medication or other medical reviews indicates that it may not be safe to treat your medical conditions and we may need to discuss this with you personally.
If you are suffering from one of the following conditions you do not need to wait to see the doctor.
- Cold and flu
- Sore throat
- Dry skin/Eczema
- Vaginal thrush
- Nappy rash
- Bites and stings
- Sun burn
- Mouth ulcers
- Cold sores
Pharmacists can give you advice and treatment. Advice is always free. If you don’t pay for your prescription then treatment will also be free under a scheme called Pharmacy First. If you do pay for your prescription you can still join this scheme but you will have to pay for any medication supplied, but this will generally be cheaper that prescription.
How do I join the scheme?
You can join the scheme at this surgery or at a participating pharmacy
- Collect a Pharmacy First Booklet from reception
- A full list of participation pharmacies is available from your GP
- You must take your Pharmacy First Booklet and evidence that you do not have to pay for prescriptions with you to the Pharmacists
- The Pharmacist will ask some questions about your symptoms and they will give you advice on how best to deal with your symptoms and the right medicine for you if you need any.
More details can be obtained from reception.
